I know most of you know by now that we were chosen to adopt the two children I mentioned in my previous post. Because they will technically be foster children until the adoption is final, I cannot post any identifying information so if you haven't heard the details from us, give us a call and we'll be happy to gush. :)
It has been a whirlwind two months as we have tried to get to know them from three hours away and have started bringing them to our home every weekend. They are high maintenance but delightful. Thanks to books like "Attaching in Adoption","Adopting the Hurt Child" and "Parenting the Hurt Child", Tim and I feel equipped to deal with their many complicated and deep emotional needs. That, combined with our support system of those of you who have done this before and those of you who have upheld us in prayer, is why we are feeling pretty good about our experience thus far with the kids. We have had them for three weekends now and they are already asking when they can move in, which is a huge shock to everyone. They have been in their current foster home for over two years and their foster family loves them dearly so we weren't expecting to be receiving much warmth yet. Fortunately, we have been educating ourselves about how to win the hearts of hurt kids and apparently it is working. We have seen God move in a mighty way in these last few months and have had our financial and emotional needs met time and time again and just in the nick of time! We have put over four thousand miles on our van since we met the kids and started traveling weekends to see them. WHEW!!
Sometime soon, we'll be sending out a more complete update through the mail. Thank you to all of you who have prayed for us during this time. God is good!
